Val Johnson was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 6, 1917. He made the important decision of accepting salvation into his life in June of 1937, and became part of Morgan Park Assembly Church (now Apostolic-Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park). He was called into the ministry of preaching in 1943. While at Morgan Park Assembly, he occupied the following positions:

In 1948, Elder Val Johnson left Morgan Park Assembly to pastor a newly formed congregation, namely the New Jerusalem Pentecostal Church. He worked full-time for the United States Department of Agriculture from 1948 through 1950 as a meat inspector. After pastoring this congregation for four years, Elder Johnson returned to his home church where he was soon appointed to the position of assistant pastor. He remained at Morgan Park Assembly during which time he received his Doctor of Theology Degree in 1959.
In September of 1962, Dr. Val Johnson was led by God to the city of Peoria, Illinois where he served as the pastor of the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ. He was an outstanding pastor, tending to the needs of the congregation while continuing to work full-time for the City of Peoria as a plumbing inspector.
In 19XX, Dr. Val Johnson was appointed to the position of District Elder, and shortly thereafter he was appointed to the office of Suffragan Bishop under the auspices of Dr. Arthur M. Brazier, diocesan bishop of the Illinois District Council, and pastor of the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, Illinois. PCJC considers it a true blessing to have such a man as our leader. He is one that really teaches and preaches from his heart, with a sincere endeavor to minister to the needs of this congregation. Suffragan Bishop Emeritus Val Johnson has been described as one with an humble spirit. He is known as an insightful, anointed and dynamic pastor with a unique preaching style. This man of God is one of a kind and is completely irreplaceable.
