In November of 1952 the Lord spoke to Sister Hattie Jordan and told her to go to Peoria, Illinois and preach in His name.
We arrived in the city Thanksgiving Day and began to teach in His name. We stayed in the home of a saint of the Church of God in Christ. I went to church with her. The pastor asked me if I would be in the city Sunday [and] if so, he wanted me to preach. I accepted his kindness and told him what we preach.
God spoke to the people through St. John 14:6. God convinced them that day that the 'Whole Truth' had been preached to them. we were asked to come back and conduct a meeting.
Eight months later, July 15, 1953, we went back and stayed in the same home. the pastor that had asked me to preach was in a tent meeting. I attended the meeting and upon seeing so many people gathered around that, i desired of him to let me use it after he closed his meeting. I offered to pay him twenty-five ($25) dollars if he would let me use the tent for one week. On the last night of his service he told me that he didn't believe in women preachers. He was hot against us but I prayed and God spoke to him. He let us teach Bible Class one hour every evening. We taught two (2) weeks and God brought the people out. In a short while we had baptized seventeen (17) in Jesus' name. God's power went out and brought them in.
The Lord had told another saint two (2) years before He spoke to me, but they failed to obey. When they heard me say that God had ordered me to go, they asked if they could come with us. I said to them, 'Yes, you are welcome with us.'
After so much persecution and put out for the Word of God, we are walking down the street one day and we saw a building on the corner of Spencer and Smith Streets. We asked God to give us that place for our church. Our prayer was answered. We moved in September 21, 1953. We dedicated it to God for service. Words cannot tell of the greatness of His and the miracles that He performed.
Many storms arose, but Jesus was alwys ther to rebuke the storm and say, 'Peace Be Still.'
